Blackline to provide Location Services for LifePort Kidney Transporter
Calgary, AB – December 14, 2010. Blackline GPS Corp. is pleased to announce that it has been selected by Chicago based Organ Recovery Systems for the development of an embedded tracking and monitoring solution for its 2011 LifePort® Kidney Transporter. Organ Recovery Systems is the world's market-leading provider of products and services to the field of transplant medicine for donor organ recovery, preservation and transport.
"Transportation of organs for transplant is a time sensitive logistics effort. The ability to integrate Blackline GPS' technology could add important value and efficiencies for the medical community we serve," says CEO of Organ Recovery Systems, David Kravitz. "We explored top-tier technology companies with the capability to engineer a robust and reliable GPS for LifePort. Blackline GPS was selected based upon their track record of excellent performance."
Traditionally, organs recovered for transplant are transported in a standard cooler. In contrast to an ice box, which passively keeps transplant organs cold, LifePort® offers a sealed, sterile, protected environment while the organ is actively perfused with a specially formulated solution. At the same time, the LifePort records and transmits data every 10 seconds on temperature, flow-rate, vascular resistance, and pressure, providing surgeons with vital information prior to transplantation.
"We are very optimistic about the prospects this represents for our services in the health sciences industry", said President & CEO of Blackline GPS, Clark Swanson. "Blackline technology has been applied to a new product category, transplant medicine, where it can provide a potentially valuable service."
