Blackline GPS delivers Mobile Lone Worker solution for AltaGas Utilities
Calgary, Alberta, CANADA – May 11, 2010
– Blackline GPS is pleased to announce the general release of
their new Loner Mobile app for the Blackberry 5.0 operating
system, for the legislated market of lone worker safety.
"Blackline has been highly responsive to serve both our
business and IT needs. Expertise in the field of industrial
safety and their quick turn-around to meet those requirements
posed by our company for lone worker safety gave us confidence
in their technology, execution and consultation in the field,"
says Dale Tasic, Supervisor of Network Architecture for AltaGas
Utilities.
Blackline GPS was among the first to develop a
lone worker platform prior to government mandated compliance.
The mobile lone worker solution operates on any Blackberry
mobile phone and allows companies to easily deploy the
pay-per-client solution to any part of the world through an
electronic application via the secure Blackline FTP site.
Blackline President & CEO said, "We're extraordinarily proud
of our safety products Loner GPS and Loner Mobile. We have
combined our experience in design, engineering, and
manufacturing innovation to deliver a powerful and highly
dependable solution to AltaGas and customers around the world
that require products and applications to ensure worker safety."
Loner Mobile can be used independently or together with Loner
GPS, the company's manufactured hip-worn hardware product.
Provincial lone worker legislation in British Columbia,
Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and New Brunswick has resulted
in companies taking a serious inventory of their safety practice
and compliance with provincial laws. Federal legislation also
has been enacted, providing an amendment to the Canadian
Criminal Code towards the enforcement of duties of reasonable
care for workplace health and safety.
The Federal legislation states, Section 2.17.1 of the Canadian Criminal Code states, "Everyone who undertakes, or has the authority, to direct how another person does work or performs a task is under a legal duty to take reasonable steps to prevent bodily harm to that person, or any other person, arising from that work or task."
The lone worker spans widely across
functional roles that include meter readers, building
inspectors, parking meter maids, law enforcement, security
guards, lot attendants, oil field personnel, mail couriers, and
countless other groups.
Company Chairman Cody Slater
said, "We have the depth of expertise in the safety arena to
deliver unprecedented value to our customers. I'm also happy to
be able to work with many of the same partners that we have had
over the 20 year history at BW Technologies".
