Blackline GPS Officially Launches the Young Driver Report Card Program throughout North America
Calgary, Alberta, CANADA –
May 20, 2010 – Blackline GPS is pleased to announce the general
availability of the much anticipated Young Driver Report Card™.
Enhancing the Entourage™ CIS standard service offering, the
Young Driver Report Card has been released for North American
consumption after a successful test program.
Blackline
addresses the concern of parents around the world with adoption
of new ways to safeguard their teenagers. The product also
exhibits a unique benefit by being an integrated GPS product
with the popular Blackline social network application, BlipPlus.
Clark Swanson, Blackline President & CEO said, "Presenting
location information in this fun and popular app seamlessly
integrates a teenager's world with that of their parents."
BlipPlus has become a socially popular mobile app among the teen
demographic and its use continues to expand by its very nature.
Users of BlipPlus become more integrated with others by sharing
the application to more people.
Mr. Swanson added, "As
our BlipPlus™ user community continues to grow, we've seen
increased interest amongst teens that use this application to
stay connected with others, including friends and family.
Coupling BlipPlus with the Young Driver Report Card, the result
is a multi-faceted product suite that promotes increased safety
with location-based tools that deliver unparallel value for our
wide range of customers. Having this capability also offers
people a responsible alternative to a distracting and
potentially fatal phone call to a driver."
Adoption of
new driving laws are intended to curb cell phone use while
operating an automobile. The enforcement of a ban on the use of
cell phones in this environment has been led by safety campaigns
orchestrated by a range of interest groups from insurance
companies to the mega media personality Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey
recently launched a campaign in cooperation with Progressive
Insurance called "No Phone Zone", aimed at eliminating the use
of cell phones in vehicles all together. Drivers are encouraged
to visit www.oprah.com/nophonezone to sign a pledge to not use
cell phones while driving.
The UK Sunday Times reported
on the release of the Young Driver Report Card stating,
"Blackline GPS, a Canadian electronics company, has created a
digital nanny that watches over young drivers, logging every
time they break the speed limit or borrow the car for an
unauthorized midnight joyride".
Blackline has smartly
extended its platform to deliver parent-customized tools that
grade the driving of a young driver with the help of a
simple-to-use and interactive report. The Young Driver Report
Card also leads the way for Blackline to offer entities such as
business owners and insurance providers more information to
assess risk associated with a particular driver or group. This
visibility includes the amount of time someone spends behind the
wheel, their average speed, and the time of day most often
driven.
Speaking to Blackline's ability to produce
innovative and targeted solutions, the Young Driver Report Card
pre-release announcement and the Entourage product line has
received global media coverage from outlets including the UK
Sunday Times, The Globe and Mail, CTV, The Toronto Star, Wired,
CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, Motor Trend, Car and Driver, and CNET, among
others.
